I've been reading through the Old Testament and I completed Deuteronomy a few weeks ago. I must confess: I love Moses. I hate reading the part where he dies. It amazes me how God molded him into a powerful deliverer of His messages when he used to be "slow of speech." And I love the words he shares; they really fire me up. I would have loved to attend one of these pep rallies. A few weeks ago I was reading in Deut.30 and Moses is sharing some final thoughts with the people before He dies.
He says, "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days..." Deuteronomy 30:19-20a
Wow....what a word! In the gospel of John, Jesus tells us that He has come that we may have life and have it abundantly. And here in this passage we clearly see what "life" looks like. Choosing life means loving the Lord our God with a whole heart, listening & obeying his voice, and holding fast (clinging) to him. Oh that I would choose life everyday and not settle for less!
