The joys of flying...

I don't like to fly....never have really. But since it takes a little over 5 days of driving to get "home," I don't have many other options. I don't like my family to fly either. My mother-in-law is en route to Puyallup. One would think with the way technology is these days that she could leave Birmingham and arrive in Seattle within about 8 hours with no problems. But there is one slight problem: American Airlines lacks an aircraft for her to board and head out this way. CBS News said that American failed to inspect their MD 80 series aircrafts properly and as a result over 500 flights have been canceled leaving Mom in Birmingham. What a bummer....everytime I fly, especially through Dallas, I encounter some kind of mishap.

Ah, yes, the big D. I sat there for 8 hours once when our plane left us. We bought playing cards that read, "Don't mess with Texas" and played every card game you could imagine. Another time we sat on the runway of the glorious DFW while they de-iced our plane....are you kidding? A couple of years ago I was flying from Nashville through Dallas to Seattle. I showed up to check in and they canceled my flight due to severe weather in .....Dallas. FYI: Airlines will not call you to tell you such news. You must show up to find out and then call your ride to come back and get you. And my last testimony of time spent in Dallas occured when I had a fever of 103 and could barely walk onto the plane. As I boarded, the flight attendant called to me, "Melissa, don't tell them you are sick. They won't let you on."

Wow, the joys of flying the friendly skies. Hopefully Mom will get here before the end of the week. As for me? I'm going to google Train Schedules.
